The 2-day Dialogue brings together professionals who will advance the SMART Islands Agenda and mobilize and activate new partnerships among civil society, the private and public sector for systems transformation. The Forum will explore policy options for improved system efficiencies; gain industry and business insights; identify investment partners; network and discover solutions to Food-Energy-Water Nexus challenges.

DR. BARBARA HUTCHINSON
DR. BARBARA HUTCHINSON

President-elect of the Association of Black Cardiologists, Barbara Hutchinson M.D., Ph.D., FACC,  always knew she wanted to be a doctor. A childhood curiosity about heart disease in her father's family, led to her eventual specialization. And it is her attention to detail and charming personality that has earned her more than 100,000 patients during her20-year career. Dr. Hutchinson believes that good health is the cornerstone of progress. Without it our plans may not materialize. She is recognized as an outstanding clinician who is detail-oriented, ensuring that patients understand their medical condition, why they need certain tests and how the information would help in their care. She is the founder and president of Chesapeake Cardiac Care, based in the Washington, D.C. area.  The practice specializes in diagnosing and treating both heart and sleep disorders as well as providing premier concierge services. 

Dr. Hutchinson has dedicated more than two decades to honing her skills as a cardiologist and sleep specialist. A recognized leader in health care, Dr. Hutchinson has been recognized for her business acumen, contributions to the medical field and her community activism. In addition to her outstanding accomplishments in medicine, Dr. Hutchinson is also active in her community. She sits on the board of several nonprofits, including Heart Health Foundation Annapolis,Enterprising Women Magazine, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and Capital City Teen Challenge. She also serves as chaplain for Links Incorporated Annapolis Chapter.  She also serves as chaplain for Links Incorporated Annapolis Chapter.  Dr. Hutchinson received her medical degree from the University of Maryland where she also did her residency and post-doctoral fellowships; a Ph.D. in cardiovascular pharmacology from Howard University; and a B.S. in chemistry from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad.
