HONORARY GALA COMMITTEE

CHAIR

Congresswoman Donna Christensen, D-USVI, will once again serve as Honorary Gala Chair for the 2010 CARAH Awards.   Congresswoman Christensen served as the initial legislative sponsor for the Caribbean American Legislative Conference on Capitol Hill in 1999.  Known for her tireless efforts on behalf of health care reform in general and health care disparities in particular, her position as representative of a Caribbean island nation has made her particularly sensitive to the Caribbean American agenda and development concerns of the Caribbean region.

CO-CHAIR

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D-NY) represents the ninth district in Brooklyn, an area fondly known as the capital of Caribbean America.   According to to census three of five people in the district are of Caribbean heritage.   As a former, City Council Member, Rep. Clarke whose roots hail back to Jamaica views her work as continuing the legacy of Hon. Shirley Chisholm, who remains an icon in Black History for her leadership and bold vision as the first Black woman to run for the President of the United States of America.
